Fly Fishing the Missouri River in Montana
The Missouri River outside of Craig, Montana is one of the best trout fisheries in the World. The Missouri River, or "Mighty Mo" as we like to call it, is home to around 4000 thousand wild trout per mile. We fish the Missouri River in the famous tailwater section from Holter Dam to the town of Cascade, about 35 miles of prime trout water. These trout average about 17", with a 20+" trout not uncommon. There are phenomenal hatches throughout the year that make this river great for someone who loves to Fly Fish for tough fighting wild trout.
The Missouri River is great for beginners to the most experienced anglers. This river is a great place for someone to learn how to fly fish, lots of fish means lots of opportunities. We fish out of drift boats, allowing for easy to learn fly fishing for beginners. The Missouri River can be fished with success in many different ways in the same day. It is also great for the experienced angler who loves to target that 22" Brown trout consistently rising under a tree branch, and you have to make a 40 foot reach cast that lands exactly one foot from the bank. Prospecting dry flies can be effective at times for all angling abilities as well. Streamers can also be great if the conditions are right, a very fun way to fish. Nymphing is typically good to very good if you prefer a more reliable way to catch fish. There are many days throughout the year that you could catch fish on nymphs, dries and streamers, all in the same day!
